Solar module, small manufacturers OR famous manufacturers
Is it fair to say that for most projects these days the module market is a commodity market, or should there be other factors considered when selecting a supplier?
Using solar modules that come from a small manufacturer, or a manufacturer that only assembles and has not made investments in the production chain is a very risky solution.
Why don't you contact them directly? Most manufacturers will sell you directly any amount, and those that won't will sell you based on a minimum quantity (100KW).
Furthermore, if a manufacturer has HQ in the Far East, their warranty is based on local laws and if you have a problem you will be chasing them in china, in a Chinese court, in Chinese. Some companies have performance insurance, some have liability insurance and they say it's coverage for the standard warranty .... the story is long. 120KW.
Suntech, CSI and Solarfun are either NYSE or NASDAQ listed. The warranties offered usually come through the distributors in cooperation with the HQ office. We offer warranties in the 20-25 year range for durability and 80% to 90% on performance. Many I listed are built in the Far East, but not necessarily China. I also have connections to US based manufacturers. And those manufacturers that will sell you 'any amount' are probably the ones you cannot later find if you have issues with the panels.
Now, be careful with inverters!
