Does it worth to install Roof top solar system?
Is it wise to promote Roof top solar system for Residences and Commercial establishments with LT grid connectivity risks, with this stupid capital subsidy and accelerated depreciation (to avoid tax payment by the solar system suppliers or commercial establishment, but, no worry about energy generation in the long run):
a). Rs. 100/kw with 30% subsidy = Rs. 3 cr/mw subsidy, at a mindless poor quality equipment for kw rating roof tops with risks of back current. Rs. 10 Cr. is spent on 1 MW of roof top of residences and we have many a time NO POWER IN THE GRID.
Most of the roof top solar PV installations will fail EHS safety over the years, if audits are done with honesty and the roof top owners will be the great losers.
Unnecessary installation of solar inverters and battery and its replacement every second or third year, hence, no economic sense as we need to take the stock of ground realities. The roof top owners will only end up generating business for these inverter and battery companies, through a compulsion from Government policies....
A large city all put together can't even load an effective 10 MW solar PV power through roof top, so, why waste on capital goods and its mindless maintenance and inverter battery replacement...
Instead, develop a 15 MW solar PV in each taluka (4500 talukas x 15 MW = 62.5 GW solar pv project opportunity!!) with only 2 acre/MW (50 acre land is easily available in any village, even near a large city place) and supply to many houses at rs. 8cr/mw with interest subsidy, we can supply at a tariff rs. 5.85/kwh with 3 to 5 % escalation per year to have sustainability due to recent TATA and ADANI breaking the PPA and claiming the escalation, hence, no accelerated depreciation, no viability gap funding, no capital subsidy. Do not blindly copy what is practiced in Germany, where the power in the grid exist in most of the time. So, wake up.
b). The poor quality supply as already seen in residence roof top systems, despite rating by credit rating agencies, speak volume of national waste of promotion of roof top solar pv systems in INDIA at present.
c). Since, industries take care of necessary protection and the commercial tariff is very high, it makes sense to compel the industries to go for roof top with the necessary protections and interest subsidy (2% interest rate and no capital subsidy to hold them responsible to generate power for 12 years of debt period) and ask them to supply at rs.5.0/kwh or less as they were provided with low cost land and the roof top project costs very less without battery backup due to ease in cabling, the project cost can be around rs. 5.5 cr/mw for an Industry roof top solar pv system due to large area.
