Choose the right inverter for solar system
Most people in the solar industry don't understand that when an electric motor or inductive load starts it spikes sometimes 400% in AMPS. Then after 4-5 seconds the motor will operate at the same AMPS as the label shows. If the inverter is too small it can not handle the start AMPS and this hurts the motor. On the demand side of a inductive load if you have a run electrical load say 4 KW and you choose a 6 KW inverter this will cause the motor to operate slower or lower RPMs. This is not good for the motor nor is it good for the inverter. A good inverter will have fuses that will fail if the AMPS draw is too high. This is another reason why I think Micro Inverters have a very limited market.
Now you have to somehow climb the roof and find out how to change a fuse on a sealed inverter. To me it just makes sense to choose a large watt inverter that can handle spikes. Now to me the best solution to feeding the grid is to use batteries thus you have a steady flow of volts and AMPs to the inverter. Use the panels to charge the batteries. Thus when you have a power outage your location is not down. Also the system is stable and can not cause any problems transmitting the proper volts and AMPS to the grid. Problem solved. Reverse current will never happen if the system is protected and grounded properly. In a true off the grid system there is a unique feature and that is the inverters selection only match the electrical loads. No power loss due to long AC power transmission. That is the most important. If you have a home that uses 2 KWh we always choose at least a 10 KW inverter. This will handle the motor's spikes. Most people don't know the real advantages of a true off the grid solar system. They only see solar as an income selling to the grid. The income stops when the grid is down. The grid usually goes down during peak power periods. Adding more power to an over taxed system is not a solution is a bigger problem.
I just wish more people would understand the problems we designed so many years ago and really why it is failing today. Here is the answer. We have outgrown the grid's design. Our electrical loads far exceed the amount of power the grid can carry. Stealing electric power just adds to the problem. Here in the USA if you steal power you go to jail.
