Build a successful roof top solar system
Success of Roof top Solar system depends on 1) bringing downs the costs and 2) involvement of grid and government policies. Introducing Net Metering system where in the electricity generated during day time is drawn by grid when the home need is minimum and reverted to home during night from the grid. This will eliminate the storage and consequent cost and ensures power availability to industrial sector during day time. Net metering will facilitate the payment to others who has drawn less power at predetermined rates. For this State policies need to be tuned well.
For Domestic Roof top PV systems, the cost need to be cut which apparently means Storage (Batteries) needs to be eliminated. That brings 'Grid Connected' system and Net Metering in. In India both have not taken roots for Domestic Rooftop systems.
In India, necessity will drive the growth of roof top solar PV market. The inconsistency in availability of grid power, higher cost of grid power during peak hours and raising cost of Diesel for gensets, is driving most commercial establishments to seriously consider solar as a potential energy source for optimizing their energy expenses, ...even though solar may not meet 100% of their energy needs.
Spreading awareness on practical aspects / limitations of solar and providing minimal risk financial plans towards installing solar will help in accelerating the growth of roof top PV installs.
